SAFETY INFORMATION

While there is a tourist alert in place in Mexico right now, Manzanillo is far, far away from the drug wars on the border. "Not only does the state of Colima have the lowest crime rate in the country, but Manzanillo has the lowest in the state." --

Transporation:

Walk to some restaurants, internet cafe, laundry services.
Buses pass by frequently and are inexpensive.
If you don't want to rent a car, taxis are cheap into and back from town
If you rent a car: Driving is just like at home, with the exception of the "retorno's", where you pull into the far right lane to make a left turn. These are clearly marked.

We also recommend Gabriel's services for transportation to and from the airport, or if you are interested in a tour guide. He speaks fluent English. Here is the information he provided us: "I am very serious with my position as a certified tour guide in
Mexico. I have two certificates in attencion to Clients from Chicago, and three from Manzanillo, and Guadalajara city. I am strictly honest in my job and dont expect to make a bunch of money in a couple of days. I have a eight passenger SUV Surburan fully equip, Air/cond.. model 2002. this Suv is fully insured, that holds two policys, one is for the surburban in case of theft or inccident, and the other is for the passenger's in case of a wreck or injury's. My Federal liciense plates gives me an access to any hotel or pick up in any airport in Mexico.

Food:

Try Cuatala's, just up the street for an inexpensive comida (lunch) or cena (dinner). Within walking distance. For stocking the fridge: Sorianna's is the "go to" supermarket in town. Up the street, also within walking distance, is Wendy's - where you can buy tasty bbq'd chickens. For a treat, La Pergola, in town, offers a wonderful patio atmosphere and superb dining for a reasonable price.

Weather in Manzanillo:

Manzanillo shares the same latitude as Hawaii and, as you might expect, this means that the weather is ideal year-round. As an added bonus the proximity of the Santiago Peninsula to the Sierra Madres and the bays of water create cooling breezes. Overall, this area has cooler temperatures than either Puerto Vallarta or Acapulco.
